The LetterZine

The LetterZine

The LetterZine is a passion project I curate with a group of young letterers. Each month we focus on a specified theme and use this as an opportunity to practice our craft and support one & other. Pieces are curated & distributed digitally @ www.letterzine.com/

Issue #5: Solstice

Issue #5: Solstice

"Stuff your eyes with wonder," he said, "live as if you'd drop dead in ten seconds. See the world. It's more fantastic than any dream made or paid for in factories." - Ray Bradbury (Fahrenheiht 451). This quote to me is infinite summer, bursting green archways that line our driveway from home, warm nights & bright stars.

Issue #4: Flourish

Issue #4: Flourish

I tried to write something beautiful about what these words mean to me. About the need for self-love to grow and thrive. But nothing else does justice other than the verse these words call home, from Buddy Wakefield’s “Information Man”;

I know there are times
when you will lay your head to rest
and have a moment of brilliance
that grows into a perfect order of words
but you will fall asleep
instead of painting it down on paper.
When you wake up,
you will have forgotten the idea completely
and miss it like a front tooth
but at least you know how to recognize moments of brilliance,
because even at your worst
you are fucking incredible.
It comes honest.
So return to yourself,
even if you're already there,
because no matter where you go
or how hard you try
or what you do
the only person you're ever gonna get to be
(and I know it)
is you.

Issue #7: Haze

Issue #7: Haze

The feeling of a song you know by heart, windows down and a mid-august heat. Just enough of a breeze. The way the pavement radiates at this time of day. Mirage-like. You can almost see the particles; the energy of everything.

Issue #8: Gather

Issue #8: Gather

“Autumn is a second spring when every leaf is a flower.” - Albert Camus. Agreed.

Issue #11: Tradition

Issue #11: Tradition

Wood stove burning. Stacked logs by the fireplace, in preparation. The wind-up snow globe winds down, slivers of glitter float like snowflakes. And outside, the lake has finally frozen again. They’re clearing a small square. Laced ice skates & plushy snowsuits rush to the make-shift rink. The spotlight tied tight to the birch tree shines down. Skates carve figure-8s under the glow of snow. Shake the memory and everything feels like magic again.
